The magic charm of the volcano

The place we call Farrobo arises among the beautiful woods of Pico Island, in the Parish of Bandeiras.

With the recovery of old stone houses, this development was born in the place from which borrowed its name - Farrobo. Once inhabited by 16 families, it was progressively being abandoned during the last 50 years. The old inhabitants lived from agriculture but as they were leaving, the houses turned into ruins and the forest surrounded the place and covered the agricultural fields.

The encounter of the Atlantic Ocean with the mountain gave birth to this magical place, among the green of the trees and the basalt grey of stone.

We have four cozy and pleasant recovered stone houses, which retained the names of former residents, now joined with a restaurant, in a total area of 10 000 m2. Surrounded by forest, with a preserved private area, the place has an astounding view, where we can hear the silence of time, the tweeting of birds mingled with the sounds of the trees, when shaken by the sea breeze.

There are still visible many tracks, once used by the ancient inhabitants, that you can now explore on foot or by bike. These tracks, which intersect with the place – relheiras, which are marks carved in stone by ancient oxcarts. We can also find caves, where the inhabitants formerly went to get water.

Come and feel the magic of an unique place!
